David Bowie’s “Heroes” Gets the Kluif Treatment

Studio Kluif is proud to unveil the design for CONSTELLATION “HEROES”, an in-depth exploration of David Bowie’s landmark 1977 album “Heroes” by Dutch artist, writer and illustrator Hans Meertens.

More than a book about an iconic record, CONSTELLATION “HEROES” is a richly layered, track-by-track journey through one of Bowie’s most enigmatic and influential works. Blending lyric analysis, studio history, cultural context and artistic legacy, the publication explores the creative forces behind “Heroes” and its enduring impact on music, art and popular culture.

For the project, Studio Kluif developed the cover design design, resulting in a beautifully produced paperback edition. Designed with great attention to detail, the book brings together Meertens’ extensive research and writing with a visual language that reflects the atmosphere and complexity of Bowie’s Berlin period.

The book has already received praise from key figures closely connected to Bowie’s legacy. Eduard Meyer, sound engineer at Hansa Studios from 1976–2003, describes it as “a sharp and impressive quest through the many layers of ‘Heroes’. A must for any Bowie lover.” Guitarist Kevin Armstrong calls it “a fascinating study of Bowie’s creative process, bringing an almost forensic insight into the ideas and influences behind the music.”

With CONSTELLATION “HEROES”, Hans Meertens, whose work is exhibited internationally and held in museum, corporate and private collections, offers what may be the most expansive reading of Bowie’s seminal album to date. Studio Kluif is honoured to have translated this ambitious vision into a publication that celebrates both exceptional storytelling and exceptional bookmaking.
